🚨 Safety First: Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Detectors
Your suite is equipped with advanced, interconnected safety sensors designed to protect you and your neighbors. Understanding how these detectors work, recognizing their signals, and knowing how to maintain them is critical for keeping your household safe.

🔋 Battery Replacements & Testing
Keeping your sensors powered is a joint effort between residents and building management.

  • Annual Management Check: As part of our mandatory annual in-suite maintenance, our certified technicians test all sensors and replace the backup batteries once a year.
  • Monthly Resident Testing: You should test your alarms monthly by pressing and holding the TEST button on the front cover until the siren sounds.
  • Do Not Remove Batteries: Never remove a detector's backup battery or detach the unit from the wall to silence a false alarm. Doing so violates the fire code and puts your safety at risk.

🔗 How the Alarms Work in Sync
Our building utilizes an interconnected, hardwired safety system rather than standalone battery units.

  • Continuous Power: The detectors run directly on the building's electrical system, using the internal battery only as a backup during power outages.
  • Synchronized Alerts: All smoke detectors inside your specific suite are wired together. If a sensor detects smoke in the bedroom, all alarms inside your suite will sound simultaneously to ensure you are alerted immediately, no matter where you are sleeping.
  • Isolated Suite Control: A regular cooking alarm inside your kitchen will not trigger the alarms in neighboring suites or sound the main building evacuation bells, keeping disruptions localized.

🔊 Beeping vs. Alarming: What It Means
Your detectors use specific sound patterns to communicate their status. Pay close attention to these differences:

  • Continuous Siren (Loud & Fast): This indicates an active emergency. If it is a smoke alarm, clear the air immediately. If it is a Carbon Monoxide (CO) alarm (four quick beeps, a pause, then four quick beeps), move to fresh air instantly and call emergency services.
  • Single Intermittent Chirp (Every 30–60 seconds): This is a low battery warning. It means the internal backup battery is dying and needs to be replaced.
  • Double Chirp (Every minute): This indicates an end-of-life or malfunction warning, meaning the internal sensor has expired and the entire physical unit must be replaced.

🛠️ When to Contact Maintenance
While you should replace a simple low battery yourself if it chirps outside of our annual maintenance window, you must contact management immediately via the Resident Portal if:

  • Persistent Chirping: The unit continues to chirp after you have installed a brand-new backup battery.
  • Malfunction Signs: The LED indicator light on the face of the detector stays solid red or amber, or the unit fails to sound when you press the test button.
  • Physical Damage: The detector casing becomes damaged, loose, or accidentally painted over during suite alterations.
